IVF

THE MOST EFFECTIVE FORM OF ASSISTED PROCREATION TECHNIQUE.

What is IVF and how does it work? In Vitro Fertilization or In Vitro Fertilization is one of the most effective assisted reproductive technologies (ART) in which mature eggs from a woman’s ovaries are collected and fertilized in the laboratory with a partner’s sperm. male. Since fertilization takes place in a laboratory glass culture dish, the process is called “in vitro”, which means Latin “in the glass”.

ABOUT IVF TREATMENT

The fertilized egg is implanted in the uterus of the woman, where the embryo then develops under natural conditions. Since not all fertilized eggs or embryos develop in pregnancy, doctors usually fertilize several eggs, which are then frozen for later use, if necessary.

SYMPTOMS FOR IVF OF TREATMENT:

  • Fallopian tubes blocked or damaged
  • Low sperm count (more serious sperm problems may require ICSI treatment)
  • Severe endometriosis
  • Poor ovarian reserve
  • PCOS with other treatments failed
  • Unexplained infertility over 3 years
  • Several failures of ovulation induction and IUI
  • Older women’s group (40 years old and over)

HOW THE IVF PROCESS WORKS FOR PATIENT’S KNOWLEDGE:

An IVF cycle takes almost four weeks. A pregnancy test is performed about two weeks after the placement of the embryo in the uterus. Before the start of the IVF cycle, a basic health check is mandatory. This evaluation typically included pelvic ultrasound, hormone dosing, uterine cavity evaluation (SHG / hysteroscopy), catheter testing, laparoscopy (if needed) and sperm culture and analysis.

The stimulation protocol is planned according to the age of the woman, the hormonal profile and the ovarian reserve.

Here’s a look at the steps involved in the treatment process.

STEP 1: STIMULATION PHASE:

According to the proposed protocol, ovarian stimulation begins on day 2 of the menstrual cycle. This phase usually lasts 12 to 14 days, during which hormonal injections are administered daily. The hormone increases the number of eggs produced by the woman, so there is more for fertilization. During this phase, hormonal tests and ultrasound monitoring are performed. Once the main follicles have reached the appropriate size, an oocyte maturation injection, ie HCG, is administered.

STEP 2: EGG RETRIEVAL:

Once the HCG injection is administered, the oocyte retrieval is performed 35 hours after the HCG injection. This procedure is done vaginally under sedation and requires hospitalization for at least half a day. The woman usually advised rest and analgesics a day after this procedure.

Step 3: Male partner procedure: Simultaneously with the recovery of eggs, the semen sample of the male partner is taken for treatment.

STEP 4: THE FERTILIZATION PROCEDURE:

The recovered eggs or oocytes are mixed with the sperm extracted from the sperm sample under safe laboratory conditions. This mixture is kept in an incubator to facilitate fertilization.

STEP 5: EMBRYO TRANSFER:

Between the third and fifth day after egg retrieval, the embryos are subjected to fertilization and cleavage control and transferred to the woman’s uterus through the cervix. The remaining embryos are frozen or cryopreserved for the future.

A pregnancy test is performed 15 days after the embryo transfer. During this period, the woman is advised to continue her usual daily activities, although the best activity is avoided during this period.
